Frequently
Asked Questions
Who can be hypnotised?
The answer to this question is undoubtedly "virtually
everyone", however some are more readily hypnotisable
than others. A lot of factors need to be considered,
not least of which is the strength of your need, your
willingness to be hypnotised and your trust and confidence
in your therapist. However, if the time is right and
a suitable practitioner can be found with whom you want
to work, then all your realistic goals are achievable.
Will I "lose control"?
The general consensus indicates that regardless of
how deeply people may go in hypnosis and however passive
they appear to be, they actually remain in full control
of the situation.
Who may benefit from Hypnotherapy?
The answer to this question again is undoubtedly "virtually
everyone". Although the list of problems that may
be amenable to Hypnotherapy is far too long to be listed
here, there are some areas where hypnotherapy may be
contra-indicated. These include some forms of depressive
illness, epilepsy, psychosis (e.g. schizophrenia) and
some breathing problems. In some circumstances, authority
to perform hypnotherapy may, and only with your consent,
be requested from your GP.
What can Hypnotherapy treat?
Below are some items suitable for treatment with hypnotherapy:

Where do I find a suitable Hypnotherapist?
At the present time, there is no single regulating
body for Hypnotherapy. However, the "General Hypnotherapy
Standards Council" is working steadily to achieve
this desired outcome for all parties. Contacting a "General
Hypnotherapy Register" practitioner should afford
you the necessary confidence to proceed with a full
consultation.

IMPORTANT: Please note that the effects of hypnotherapy may differ from Client to Client. No therapy can give you a 100% guarantee of a cure. Before any Hypnotherapy is undertaken, a questionnaire form will be completed, in which you will be asked to disclose certain medical information. Whilst clinical hypnotherapy is very safe, if you are epileptic, undergoing psychiatric treatment or taking medication as part of a course of treatment, then you should obtain a letter from your medical practitioner to confirm that you may have hypnotherapy.
